BA (Hons) Fine Art, 2004- 2013: Work part time as studio assistant to international artist Julie Roberts, 2000- Present: Freelance creative practitioner, working with community groups, early years (Sure Start), schools (pupils, teachers and parents) and disability groups.

Approach to the work/professional ethos

To provide an environment that encourages and values the creative process above technique or product to enable the authentic voice of each participant to be paramount.

The participants experience is most important and as a practitioner challenging and supporting them to explore and express their creativity is a privilege and something I am passionate about.

Gail currently assists with running Studio Theatre Carlisle.

Project Example 1

Star Fish Theatre Company, Prism Arts, “The Fantastic Fruit Show”. The show was developed after the group saw a very short healthy eating performance at a conference they attended. From the groups drawings and conversations the story and characters emerged. Work began in collaboration with a variety of practitioners to support and enable. Songs where written, music composed, story boards produced, props and costumes made, all led and executed by the participants. All came together after rehearsals to become a very successful show which was performed at many venues and generated further projects with participants delivering there own workshops.

Project Example 2

Victoria Infants and Junior Schools, Workington, Transition Project. The move from an infants school to junior school can be a daunting prospect. This project was devised to bring together both groups in a creative exploration to enthuse and reassure for a smooth transition. The infants moving to juniors year 4/5 juniors and teachers where brought together at the junior school to collaborate in the project. Both groups where involved in creating every aspect of what became a Viking Saga. Working with practitioners a story was written, music arranged and played and puppets made to illustrate the Saga. A Celebration Day was held where every participant had a role in a performance of the Saga to both schools and the parents.
