30 Year Celebration Events 2017

This year Prism Arts is celebrating 30 years of creating and running arts projects which are accessible to all. We have ran a programme of events over the year including a Crowdfunder and 30 hour non-stop Draw-a-thon. We are now looking forward to our Theatre Tour.

30 Years of Prism Arts Celebratory Events (3)

Shadow Tales tells the story of a boy called Charles, as he investigates his identity. The story follows him from Britain, where he has spent his life, back to India to discover his family’s past. It is visually rich, incorporating a mixture of shadow theatre with magnificent puppets and live performance.

Studio Theatre Carlisle ran a Crowdfunder to raise the money needed to take their next production Shadow Tales on tour around Cumbria.

The crowdfunder raised £7,380 over the 6 weeks it ran (11th May until the 20th July) from 80 donations including a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund as part of the Heritage+The Crowd matched crowdfunding pilot programme.

In return for donations Prism Arts was offering unique rewards like hand-printed tote bags, personal thank you videos and portrait commissions. The rewards also included original artwork from their emerging artists John lake and Harvey Tye, both of which were claimed.

Draw-a-thon (1)

Prism Arts held a 30 hour Draw-a-thon at the Old Fire Station in Carlisle on the 11th and 12th June.

For 30 hours non-stop Prism Arts staff, artists and the pubic joined in the drawing effort and completed a staggering 60 metres of drawings and clocked up over 360 hours of volunteered time.

Prism Arts would like to thank Stead McAlpins printworks in Cummersdale who donated the fantastic fabric which we drew on, to the Old Fire Station for providing the space to hold the Draw-a-thon and to McGrew’s Bistro for providing meals for the drawing team. Prism Arts held a raffle during the time which was very successful, prizes included artwork donated by artists and vouchers from First Choice Meats and Kirklinton Hall Historic House and Gardens.
