Our Summer School is part of Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life’s The Somme 100 Commemoration Community Arts Project to create a commemorative quilt for the 100th anniversary of The Battle of the Somme which culminates in a special event in Carlisle Castle on Remembrance Day (11 November). The quilt will explore aspects of the Somme or military conflict. This could encompass family stories, animals at war or knitted comforts that were sent to the troops.

Choc Box

The quilt will be constructed as a long thin line of individual patches which can then be rolled up like a roll call/list of names. Each patch will be the same size as the tins of chocolates that were sent out to each of the soldiers for Christmas 1914.

Suitable for all ages. All materials will be provided. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Please call or email Bryoney at Prism Arts, 01228 888630, if you have any questions.

This year we worked with Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life to bring you our Summer School on 22nd August – 26th August 2016.

Our Summer School’s are ideally suited for young people, children and adults with learning disability and autism. Our Summer School is delivered by professional artists and this year, commemorated the lives of the men who fought in the Battle of the Somme in World War I with the Border Regiment. Participants created a small performance for the afternoon of Friday 26th August. Workshops included puppetry, costume making, art, textiles and writing.

Our summer school’s are free of charge.
